6th Form Project
We provide an opportunity for young people in London to experience the impact of poverty and Aids in South Africa by working in a school, painting and decorating the classrooms and teaching the pupils, making a difference to one school.
The aim of this project is to:
- Provide students in England with an opportunity to do something 'special' for as low a cost as possible so that students are not denied access because of cost.
- Involve the students in the project by expecting them to raise at least half of the cost of the project, however they can, rather than relying on parents to pay.
- Increase the students' knowledge / understanding of the causes of HIV / AIDS and its impact.
- On return to England to provide a group of young people to work within the school to support in the education to prevent the spread of HIV / AIDS in England – no matter how hard staff try to inform pupils in schools they will not be as effective as having other students bringing their knowledge and experience to a lesson
- To provide a unique experience for students in an impoverished school in the Valley of a Thousand Hills – a opportunity to mix with and develop the English skills of the local young people – a lasting memory in the form of a new building or classrooms redecorated
- To involve some of the parents of the students in the Township in improving the environment of their school.
