The Feeding Program

In 2008 the Inchanga Primary School discovered that they had at least 300 children from child led families or families with no means of providing food. The only food that they were receiving was the government funded lunch provided Monday to Friday. The School sought help and was able to provide a meelie (maze) porridge for breakfast but this still meant that the children had no food at the weekends or during school holidays. The Charity began raising money and has been providing 1 meal on Saturday and Sunday, and has now gained help from the Catholic Church in South Africa to provide 1 meal per day during School Holidays - until the end of 2012. The food is provided in the form of a fully nutricious porridge, which only requires water to be added and is therefore easy for the children to use.

In preparation for the end of 2012, a horticultural project is being established on land adjacent to the school to enable the school to grow vegetables for the children and for sale. This will provide money needed to fund the feeding programme. The pictures below show the delivery of the special food for the weekends and the intial preperation of the land ready for the horticultural project to begin.

We are still seeking funding to provide food for the weekends and the ongoing horticultural project.
