Merci!

January 13, 2021

A big ‘Merci’ to everyone who took part in two French baking events on Zoom which raised more than £250 (excluding gift aid) for our Secondary Education Support project! Raising funds through the classes were the idea of Rebekka Stredwick, one of our trustees. The baking classes were led by top pastry chef, Emmanuel Bonneau. Emmanuel was awarded Best Pastry Chef of 2017 by the Craft Guild and was the winner of Bake-off: The Professionals in 2018. Emmanuel provided us with the recipes and the baking lessons (see his Instagram account @emmanuel_bonneau for pictures of what he bakes in his spare time – wow!).

Rebekka said, “I met Emmanuel at a similar event on zoom for a friend’s birthday party and decided, almost as an experiment, to organise something similar and see if the participants would like to donate to our charity. At the end of the Zoom baking class, we gave a little overview of the charity and it was as simple as that! People gave generously. Thank you to Emmanuel for all the time he gave to showing us how to bake Paris Brest and Yule Log – they were delicious! I think we need a bit more practice, however, so I may organise another fundraising baking class again – this time for beginners! Watch this space! “

Here are some pictures from the Paris Brest Zoom event!

Voila!

Small events like these are a great way of raising vital funds for charity so please do contact us if you would like to organise a fundraiser. We can assist you with ideas, information and even provide speakers to talk about our work in South Africa.

Thank you again to all those who took part!

It has pushed me towards always wanting to help those who do not have as much as they deserve to have.
