Good classroom behaviour management can make a vital difference to learning success and the overall happiness and culture of a school. Our amazing founder and trustee, Margaret Turnbull, has been busy training individual management teams of the primary schools we work with in the Valley of 1000 Hills in South Africa. These are the same schools she worked with when training teachers in April-May of this year and are schools that usually have little or no access to this kind of training.
The purpose of the latest training was to go through the ‘Rewards and Consequences’ classroom behaviour rules at the schools to ensure both pupils and teachers are clear about how the system works. The focus is on rewards for good behaviour and knowing that the consequences become more challenging for those who chose to ignore the behaviour rules. The aim is to “Catch them being good”. So, to especially look out for children who were once rule breakers and to reward and praise them when they try to stick to the rules.
Behaviour management isn’t an easy area of teaching or training, and no one size fits all. The schools get to practice the many strategies they have been shown to enable children to get back on task without disrupting the lessons.
This training is part of our Teacher Training and School Development project and Margaret aims to return later this year in October to deliver further training. To help keep this inspirational and vital work going, please donate here.

We are a registered UK charity raising funds to support children impacted by HIV and AIDS and rural township schools. All money raised goes directly to the projects.
