A new learning system – skills for the future

August 12, 2023

Today is the United Nations’ International Youth Day and the theme for 2023 is, Green Skills for Youth: Towards a Sustainable World.

Education is vital to sustainable development, and we are delighted to announce that a new digital teaching and learning system for Obed Mlaba Inchanga Technical School, is a step closer to reality.

This has been made possible thanks to our close collaboration with the Rotary Club of Pinetown in KwaZulu-Natal who have helped us supply the system to the school.

The digital learning system and resources cover the main curriculum subjects for Grade 8 to 12 (the Secondary schooling phase in South Africa). The system has been piloted in other schools where results have been seen to improve year on year and have included a rise in Matriculation grades. The new system is particularly brilliant as it needs no Internet connectivity and can easily be upgraded.

Earlier this year, Obed Mlaba Technical School staff and Hillcrest AIDS Centre Trust UK’s Founder and Trustee, Dr Margaret Turnbull, took part in training at a local Learning Centre, where the system’s learning resources were introduced to the educators.

We are really excited about these new developments at the Technical School. Watch this space for more updates once the system is fully implemented.

I loved being able to give back to the community and help people who needed it. I really enjoyed revamping the classrooms so that the children had a clean and stimulating environment to work in.
