The classrooms of another primary school in South Africa are about to get a makeover! From the 9th to the 24th July, we will take 28 grade 11 (16-17 years) South African high school students from two well-resourced schools near Durban, to work at KwaNdolosi Primary School. The school is located in a rural township, deep in the Valley of 1000 Hills (KwaZulu-Natal). Here, as in many schools across KwaZulu-Natal, the classroom sizes top 50-60 pupils and poverty is rife.
KwaNdolosi primary school has 900-1000 pupils mostly from families with very low incomes, and its classrooms haven’t seen a lick of paint for years. Over six days the students from Hillcrest and Kloof High Schools will decorate seven of the classrooms. Then for another week, they will teach the primary school pupils English, Maths, Science and creative arts.
KwaNdolosi Primary School is one of a number of schools we have partnered with through our Valley Project. The aim is to bring school children together from very different social and economic backgrounds to learn vital skills and to break down cultural barriers.
Although the high school students work hard to raise money to help fund their work, the project can always benefit from extra funds to help subsidise any shortfalls for painting materials, transport, and other things the children might need for their lessons. If you would like to help fund this or any other projects run by Hillcrest AIDS Centre Trust UK, then you can donate now.
We are a registered UK charity raising funds to support children impacted by HIV and AIDS and rural township schools. All money raised goes directly to the projects.
