One of the schools we work with is Dawede Primary School in Molweni in the Valley of 1000 Hills, South Africa. The school was hit badly by the terrible KwaZulu-Natal floods a few weeks ago (as you can see from the photos). Dr Margaret Turnbull, our founder and trustee, managed to visit Dawede Primary by navigating partially collapsed roads full of sinkholes and potholes once they had started to reopen.

“On arrival at the school, the Principal showed me the damage suffered during the storm the previous week when a mud slide basically destroyed the toilets,” Margaret reports, “She now has to wait for the Education department to provide mobile toilets.”
Dawede Primary is the school where we will be running our next Valley Project (previously called the South African Student Project) in July. This is the first time the project will take place since 2019. The plan is for 30 Hillcrest High and Kloof High school students from Grade 11 and 12 to fully decorate 6 classrooms, inside and out. As COVID is still present the project this year will only involve painting and decorating at the school. We hope to be able to re-introduce the pupils teaching again next year.
We are really relieved that we can run this project again after the enforced break due to the COVID-19 pandemic, as now more than ever, schools in the region like Dawede, need every bit of help on offer.
If you can help us help these schools through the projects we run, then please donate here. 100% of your donation goes to the projects. And if you can, please add UK gift aid to your donation which makes every £1 gifted go an extra 25p further – thank you!
