Yippee! We’ve just received the fantastic photos and report about the Spirit of Adventure camp attended by 12 grade 7 children in their last year of primary school. The young learners come from several of the schools we work with in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.
The three-day trip, which is funded by Hillcrest AIDS Centre Trust UK involves the pupils staying at South Africa’s Spirit of Adventure base camp and taking part in team activities which promote important educational life skills such as leadership and planning, skills that are an important preparation for secondary school.
Participating in this fun-filled camp is the children’s reward for their huge efforts, achievements, and extremely hard work at school, particularly in the context of numerous health and economic difficulties such as the impact of HIV and AIDs and other challenges. The trip took place from the 24th – 26th November 2021.
Pemla Mtshali, Goals4Life Coordinator at the Hillcrest AIDS Centre Trust in South Africa, who accompanied the pupils wrote:
“The children were exposed to the great outdoors in a manner they had never experienced before”
“On arrival the children got right into the action and had fun being taught how to kayak. The following day we hiked and rock climbed.”
“I got to see, first-hand, how they dealt with any issues they encountered and how they reacted to problems along the way.”
