Help us make Lebo’s study dream come true

October 7, 2019

Can you help Lebo fulfil her dream to finish school and study law?  A Gift of just £5 will cover a month’s worth of books/folders or transport to school in her final year before she matriculates. Read on to find out more…

Lebo, one of the school girls we sponsor in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, is very excited that her final year at school is just around the corner.  She gained an amazing 25th place out of 217 pupils at school last term (5th place in her class overall). Lebo’s steady progress, dedication to her studies and excellent school report means she is well on the way to reaching her goal of attending university to study to become a lawyer.

“My dream is to be one of the best lawyers in South Africa,” Lebo enthuses. “I want to become a judge at the constitutional court and I want to give back to the community!”

Over the years, as mentors and supporters, we have watched Lebo overcome numerous life challenges and grow into a confident woman excited by a future full of potential. “Every opportunity you get, don’t let it sleep – never give up!” is Lebo’s wise motto and advice to others.

However, coming from a region with high levels of economic hardship, it is difficult for Lebo to fund the costs of essentials like books, school uniforms, and transport to get to school. But with the help of kind sponsors, we have been able to cover these costs, enabling Lebo to complete each school year.

So, with one more year to go, we are looking for donors to cover the costs of her final year (Jan-Dec 2020) at school to ensure Lebo can fulfil her dreams to gain a place at university. You can donate here.

A gift of £5 a month covers 1 months’ transport or exercise books/ stationary/folders

A gift of £25 a month covers just over 4 months transport or new shoes, a school blazer, a skirt

A one off gift of £85 provides Lebo with the school learning equipment /exercise books she needs for the year

A one off gift of £170 provides Lebo with all her school uniform needs for the year including shoes, sports trainers and kit

Don’t forget that if you are a UK taxpayer, you can claim Gift Aid which increases the donation made, covering more of the costs above!

And here’s a final word from Lebo…

“Thank you to Hillcrest AIDS Centre UK and your sponsors for all your support which has inspired me in my education. Thank you Margaret Turnbull – my mentor and friend. Your advice and tips on life and education are invaluable for my future.”

Thank you so much for supporting Lebo! Don’t forget her motto: “Every opportunity you get, don’t let it sleep!”  Donate here today.

This project has taught me to never take anything for granted and to appreciate the simple things in my life. Sometimes in life you forget how privileged you are until you see how someone else has to live.
